Who are you trying to impress?

Your customers care about clarity, not complexity

Sometimes, when it comes to websites, a lot of companies overcomplicate things because they think they’re supposed to.

The technical aspects of websites and SEO can be complicated, for sure.

But the strategy and flow? That should be simple.

I’ve seen a lot of companies think they have to play big - have a massive tech stack, complicated user journeys, or bells and whistles that don't actually help anyone. It's like they believe more features equals more professional.

(spoiler: it doesn’t)

But here’s the thing: even if you're a large company with a very important mission, you can still have a simple website. Actually, you should.

A simple website will serve you better, because your mission is clear. What you do, how you solve people’s problems is front and center. People don't have to wade through fluff or click through seven pages to understand if you're the right fit.

The best websites I've built do one thing really well - they help the right people find exactly what they're looking for. No confusion, no overwhelm, just clarity.

Your website doesn't need to impress other business owners with how complex it is (because other business owners will never know). It needs to connect with the people who actually need what you're offering.

So, how do you know if you need a more complex website or a lot of integrations to tie things together? That depends on your business. If you work with different audiences, have different offers ranging from done-for-you to do-it-yourself, you may need some additional features.

But start simple. You can always add complexity later if your business actually needs it. It's much harder to strip away the unnecessary stuff once it's already built.

Quick Tip:

Pick one page on your website and ask: what's the ONE thing I want someone to do here? If you can't answer that in a single sentence, the page is trying to do too much. Every page should have one clear purpose - whether that's getting them to contact you, learn about a service, or move to the next logical step.
