I love paying for a bunch of business tools! I don't want to downsize my tech stack!
Who says that?
Most business owners I know do regular audits of their tools to see if they’re still useful, and the huge wave of price increases across nearly every platform has been hurting.
(A lot of VC buyouts have been itching to get their money back from the investments, hence price increases everywhere. Plus adding AI to everything that doesn’t need it has boosted the prices.)
I’ve been auditing my own systems and been able to drop a couple of subscriptions that aren’t useful anymore, like dropping a popular CRM tool for designers in favor of something that works better for me and my brain. One of my clients did the same thing and told me about it when we were catching up recently.
She’s a play therapist and we launched her branding and website a couple of years ago when she went into private practice.
She told me that her website has been bringing in such a good client roster that she’s been able to drop her subscription to Psychology Today, while still having a waitlist and avoiding the summer slump therapists typically have.
Psychology Today is about $360/year for therapists to have a profile (I didn’t know that). It’s a really popular directory to help people find their next therapist. I personally find it really hard to use, since it makes everyone seem really similar. There isn’t a lot that a therapist can do to showcase their unique perspective. There’s also SO many options that it’s a lot for me to parse through.
A lot of therapists will get leads through Psychology Today. Sometimes they’re great leads, other times it’s not the best fit. My client was getting more quality leads through her website than she ever got through Psychology Today, and her website subscription costs less.
It made sense to drop it, since she had two tools doing the same job in her business. One brought lackluster results, the other was working well.
Her marketing plan is completely word of mouth and her website. That’s it. She told me she doesn’t stress when a client reschedules at the last minute, because her business is stable enough to handle it.
Your website can do a lot more than just broadcast your services. It can be a real, functional tool in your business. If you’re ready for that, I have 3 spots left for custom web projects this year. If you’re ready to chat, reply to this email.
